My Current Skincare Routine

Hello lovelies and welcome back to my blog!

As you can probably tell this month I've been neglecting my blog and I'm feeling pretty guilty about it. Today after finally sitting down at the computer I decided to type up a blog post on something very dear to me: my skin. Over the years I've struggled with acne and combination skin. My skin has always been such a challenge, and finally, It's all slowly starting to heal and remain pretty clear. My skin is a big part of why I entered Cosmetology school, I wanted to help myself and help others with their skincare. Throughout the years you name it, I've tried it I've used everything from Neutrogena, Proactiv, right down to high end, more expensive skincare systems. A few years ago I discovered at random I had a strange, small bubble where my Thyroid was and was directed to an endocrinologist. My thyroid was tested and they had told me I had a benign tumor in my thyroid (non-cancerous) the doctors said it may be why I've always experienced acne flair ups throughout the years. (your thyroid manages all of your hormones) Which may explain a lot, because I tend to breakout only on my cheeks, jawline and neck. Aside from all of that, it has been crucial to me to nail down the best skincare system for my skin type in hopes of achieving my best skin possible. Here in this post I will be showing you my every day, cold weather proof skincare routine, enjoy!

(Cleanse) Purity by Philosophy

When I began working at Ulta this past month, I instantly knew I needed to put my amazing discount to good use and invest in a small bottle of this liquid gold. A lot of my friends and family swear by this cleanser by Philosophy and I wanted to try it out for myself. I've been an avid user of Lush Cosmetics (I worked for them seasonally for a brief time) skincare that is natural, fresh and with no added chemicals so I was a little worried to stray from my Lush favorites. However, I'm also an avid reader of Allure Magazine and Purity is one of 2015 Readers Choice Award Winner for skincare so I felt good about the transition. When I first tried this cleanser I was shocked at how gentle it was on my skin, and how it left my face feeling hydrated, not tight or itchy. I was happy to see there are a few essential oils in this cleanser (rosewood, sage, carrot, sandalwood) which works wonderfully at cleansing and calming the skin. This cleanser is a 3-in-1: a makeup remover, cleanser, and toner and it does truly melt away even the craziest of winged liner. However I will say I do use my Original Beauty Eraser prior to this cleanser (which eliminates the need to double cleanse & to buy makeup wipes all the time) Double cleansing is crucial to remove all of your makeup and with these two products, my skin remains clean and refreshed.

(Tone) Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Which Hazel Toner

For those of you who aren't quite sure what a toner is: 1. Removes remaining makeup 2. Rejuvinate the skin 3. Tightens pores 4.Balances skin pH. For me, it's crucial that I always tone my skin directly after cleansing to ensure everything is clean and prepped for the next steps ahead. If you're looking for an all natural, inexpensive toner Thayers has an amazing selection to choose from. I've been using this toner for a little over three months and I love it. I've always been a big fan of all natural witch hazel as a toner, but this one is perfect for it's added ingredients: aloe, rose, and grapefruit. All of those lovely ingredients help to soothe, calm, and brighten the skin which I'm all for. Overall, this toner is inexpensive and well worth the extra step in your skincare routine.

(Exfoliate) Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

I exfoliate 1-2 per week and this is my go-to pick. When I was working at my past salon, we specialized in Dermalogica skincare, meaning we truly had a great understanding of this product line. Luckily for me, I also had a wonderful discount through the company which allowed me to purchase this $54 bad boy for only $30! Dermalogica is grade a top of the line skincare and it's pretty rad if I do say so myself. The Microfoliant was my product of choice out of everything Dermalogica had created. This exfoliator is very gentle but super effective in buffing away all of your dead skin. Below is the description of this product and how it works.

Dermalogica Microfoliant is a unique, rice-based enzyme powder activates upon contact with water, releasing Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes to smooth the skin and accelerate cell renewal. Their unique Skin Brightening Complex of Bearberry, Aspergillus, Grapefruit and Licorice helps to balance uneven skin pigmentation. Active agents derived from Rice Bran and Rice Extract help to regulate melanin production while micro-exfoliating dead cells. A super-soothing blend of Green Tea, Ginkgo and Colloidal Oatmeal calms inflammation, leaving the skin extraordinarily clear and refreshed. Gentle enough to use on a daily basis. Fragrance free. Professional recommendation advised.

I'm obsessed with this exfoliator because it's gentle enough to use often and it makes your skin super smooth and evens out the texture as well. I've been using this product for a good seven months now and I'm still crazy about it because it works for my sometimes problematic skin.

(Treat) Peter Thomas Roth Acne Clearing Gel

I'm so very thankful to have friends who work over at Sephora and always offer up great suggestions. I picked up this bad boy over a year ago and haven't looked back since. This is the only serum I've used that battles my hormonal breakouts, blackheads, and hyper pigmentation. I use this serum every night before bed and it's completely saved my skin. My skin is at it's clearest, but it's nowhere near perfect, which is okay. For the most part, I've been experiencing breakouts around "that time of the month" only lately and to me, it's amazing compared to where my skin used to be. From years of having acne and picking at my skin, I've been left with ugly, horrible acne scars and luckily, this serum has been a godsend of fading the left over hyper pigmentation. I've come to realize to achieve great skin you must eat well, sweat daily, and be consistent with your skincare (and listen to what your body's telling you!) This serum has worked wonders for my skin. Listed below is the description of what this serum does and how it works.

(Moisturize) First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer

It's now November in Maine and as crucial as it is to always moisturize, it's now officially dry skin season....yay. Last year I struggled to find a luxurious moisturizer that kept my skin baby soft and didn't irritate my highly sensitive skin. This year my skin has not been dry once, thanks to FAB. First Aid Beauty is a skincare line directed to us sensitive ladies. What I love about this line is that it's free of harsh chemicals and loaded with amazing skin friendly ingredients :

-Colloidal Oatmeal: Relieves itching and soothes irritated skin.
-Shea Butter: Moisturizes the skin and helps to protect the skin’s barrier function.
-Meadowfoam Seed Oil: Softens and hydrates the skin.
-Licorice Root, Feverfew, and White Tea: Combat free radicals.

I've been using this product day and night for the past two months and I've noticed a significant change in my skin. My skin is no longer dry, itchy and irritated, it's supple, more hydrated and radiant. I'm obsessed with this moisturizer, and honestly, I haven't felt better about my skin since using this moisturizer. My skin has such a luminous glow to it, and I couldn't be happier with my skin lately. Overall, I'm grateful to have found a routine that has been working for my uber sensitive, bipolar skin.
