Big Breakfasts & Slow Mornings... (Becoming a Morning Person)

Some people are night owls, others are "those morning people" If I had to put myself into one of these categories, well.... I couldn't. I've never been a morning person or a night owl, I would say I'm a strange mixture of the two. I feel most creative at night but I can get a heck of a lot done at 6am, so maybe I'm neither? In this post I will be discussing how I became more of morning person and helped myself focus and not entirely hate early mornings. Becoming a "Morning Person" has been quite the process, but I'm making my way there.

I set the alarm extra early.......

It's crucial to me that I get plenty of rest for my crazy, sometimes sporadic work week, I do so by using my planner and best judgement. On nights where Dustin and I get home at 7:00 the first thing I want to do is eat dinner and plop down in front of the television to cuddle with Pablo and catch up on our favorite shows. Sometimes this can be challenging because I'll want to binge watch Netflix for three hours when in all reality I should be climbing into bed around 9:00 to get enough sleep for the day ahead. Some nights we do this, and almost always wake up cranky. Other days, we're pretty good about sticking to a solid sleep schedule. Above all, I always set my alarm an hour and a half before I need to be leaving the house.... why? because it gives me time to wake up slowly and actually enjoy my morning.

I indulge.......

When I say indulge, it's nothing too too crazy.... I pride myself in  (trying) to take the very best care of myself and eating healthy. I believe life is way to short for bad coffee, so, I spurge.... because why not? Coffee to me is an extravagance, a luxury... something we should all indulge in. Coffee is truly what gets me out of bed in the morning and is something I look forward to. Caffeine is such a beautiful thing and it makes me a bit more social & pleasant in the mornings. Dustin has a habit of going downstairs each morning to turn on the coffee maker before all else, because he knows if I was without it, I would probably be a hot mess.

I exercise.......

Most mornings I hit the gym bright and early, and that makes all the difference in my mood and energy throughout the day. On mornings when I go to the gym before I have my morning cup of coffee, I find that sometimes I can forgo it because exercise is such a great pick me up. I love days where I carpool with Dustin, I hit the gym and have plenty of time to stop at my favorite coffee shops in Portland before going into work. On days where I don't get to the gym in the morning, I notice a huge difference in my energy levels throughout the day. Exercise truly makes me love mornings, and vice versa.

I give myself quiet time.....

Every morning I try to speak less and listen more..... whether that be at the gym, to people waiting in line to get coffee, or at work. I like to spend my mornings quietly puttering around the house, eating my breakfast and enjoying a hot cup of coffee. My quiet, alone time is crucial to me because it allows me to focus on the upcoming tasks ahead and mentally recharge. I love waking up early to curl up on the couch without the tv or radio on to slowly sip my coffee and listen to Pablo running around the house. I love my quiet mornings it's the  best way to recharge and prepare myself for a work day. If I didn't have any downtime in the morning I would be  half ass-ing everything and running out of the house in a hurry.... No thank you.

I pamper myself.....

Each morning after I've had my quiet time and first cup of coffee I head upstairs to pamper myself. Whether I'm taking a shower or not that morning, I'm always reaching for my favorite face masks, or body lotions. Each morning I start of by using my favorite facial cleansers, toners, serums and moisturizers then take my time to get ready. If I wasn't beauty obsessed and I didn't have so many beauty products I could probably sleep in a little bit longer, bur that's just the way it goes. I take my time to do my hair and makeup each morning, while listening to a playlist on Pandora or putting the shuffle on my IPod. If I had to forgo my morning routines I wouldn't feel put together let alone ready for a nine hour work day. On my weekends I completely forget my routines and indulge a bit.... we both sleep in, and take our time crawling out of bed only to head downstairs to drink coffee and make a big breakfast for each other. I love our shared days off together and how we're fans of big breakfasts & slow mornings. Becoming a morning person has been a long process and I'm 100% okay with that because life is about experience, and morning are one big experience.....
